DUI Charge for Stamford Woman, 20, in New Canaan

A police officer driving behind the vehicle saw it weaving in its lane and crossing over the double yellow line, police said.

An arrest of a Stamford woman on a charge of driving while under the influence was the result after a New Canaan police officer saw a vehicle in front of his patrol car weaving in its lane, police said.

New Canaan police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court):

At about 9:45 p.m. on Monday, April 6, the officer was driving on New Norwalk Road, near Hoyt Farm Drive, when he saw the vehicle, which also crossed over the double-yellow lines. He stopped the car.

In speaking with the driver, Emma Rushton, 20, of Stillwater Road in Stamford, the officer smelled alcohol on her. He had her take field sobriety tests, which she did not pass, and she was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Rushton later posted $250 bond and, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website, she is scheduled to appear April 22 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
