Peekskill Man Faces Felony Drug Charges

Stopped for a traffic infraction, he got out of the car and ran away, police said.

Michael Cunningham, 25, faces charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree, a Class D Felony, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd Degree, a Misdemeanor, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a Violation.

State police said troopers stopped a 2003 BMW near Poughkeepsie for failing to use a directional signal. But when the car stopped, the driver and passenger got out and ran away.

Following a brief foot pursuit, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Cunningham, was taken into custody without further incident, police said. They Peekskill resident was arrested after investigation revealed that he was in possession of cocaine and marijuana.

A Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office K9 located the passenger on the banks of the Wappinger Creek. The passenger in the vehicle was not charged.
