All meetings and government operations will continue as scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

City Garbage & Recycling Pickup:

Garbage and recycling pickup will be delayed by one day as a result of the storm.

Important Reminders for Residents:

  1. For safety, snow and ice is mandated to be removed from passenger cars, trucks and commercial vehicles because of the dangers of ice missiles.
  2. City Ordinances mandate the removal of snow and ice on sidewalks in front of homes and businesses within twelve (12) hours of the ceasing of such snow fall or freezing; or if such fall or freezing is in the nighttime, before 10:00 a.m. of the succeeding day so that such sidewalk shall be safe for public travel.
  3. Fire Hydrants must remain clear in case of an emergency.

Safety Concerns:

  • Avoid overexertion when shoveling snow. Overexertion can bring on a heart attack - a major cause of death in the winter. If you must shovel snow, stretch before going outside.
  • Continue to protect yourself from frostbite and hypothermia by wearing warm, loose-fitting, lightweight clothing in several layers. Stay indoors, if possible. If you must go out into the elements dress in layers and cover your skin.
  • Keep dry. Change wet clothing frequently to prevent a loss of body heat. Wet clothing loses all of its insulating value and transmits heat rapidly.
  • Watch for signs of frostbite. These include loss of feeling and white or pale appearance in extremities such as fingers, toes, ear lobes, and the tip of the nose. If symptoms are detected, get medical help immediately.
  • People can be injured in traffic accidents, on icy roads, from falls and from hypothermia from prolonged exposure to cold. When extreme cold hits, it’s important to do what you can to stay warm.
  • Motorists should be aware of black ice and other hazardous conditions. Drivers are advised to be extra vigilant on the roads.

Overnight Warming Center:

An overnight warming center is located at Inspirica, 8 Woodland Pl. from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday night.
