WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS

The first episode saw a sniper killing random people with no warning from a secret hole in the boot of his car. The second saw a murderer stalking his victims and brutally murdering them as they got off the tube, and the latest features a man who was quite possibly killed by his own step-son.

Is it any wonder we’re finding ourselves checking behind the shower curtain at night and are afraid of looking in a mirror in a mirror in the dark?

Silent Witness is in the middle of its 18th series, currently starring Emilia Fox, Richard Lintern, David Caves, and Liz Carr and there’s a reason it’s been going for so long, it’s ridiculously gripping.

If horrendously scary.

The last two episodes, called Falling Angels, saw a woman leave a tube train and be followed all the way home before the killer later popped out from where he was hiding in the bath tub to brutally murder her.

It happened at Archway station – a real station instead of a fictional one – and was all a bit close to the bone for regular late night tube users.

This week a paedophile is found murdered in a playground, a woman’s little girl has been snatched, and another man is murdered apparently by his step-son. WE DO NOT FEEL SAFE.

And neither does Twitter, all because this programme is alarmingly real.

Many a Silent Witness fan took to the site to voice their fears.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Emilia Fox that the latest two episodes, called Protection, have been some of the hardest to film.

‘I hope it’s dealt with authentically because I felt very invested in it. There were some scenes… I think they were the hardest scenes I’ve had to do in Silent Witness.’

Maybe we can blame the different directors for giving us new heebie jeebies each week. She said: ‘Each film has a different feel – different directors come on and bring their own energy and ideas to it.’
