I want to get this part out of the way. To the reviewer who made mention of reviews that name the developer as either being friends or fans I would say, well yeah, why WOULDN'T they mention the dev, especially if they put out consistently good apps? Reading that this particular dev is Indie is a good incentive to look more closely at their apps as I like helping out good "new" devs who are trying to make a name for themselves. Hard to do if there aren't reviewers who make mention of other apps by the same dev. I like knowing whether or not it's worth my time messing with an app or looking for any more from said dev. But that's just me. I happen to "know" some of the reviewers based on prior reviews they've done like Tinfoot and Robert Reese and jjceo to name a few and I like knowing what they think about both the app and the dev. Don't always agree with them but I appreciate the details they include in their review.
Now, on to the actual review. This is a nice and simple yet fun to play app. Some brain stretching is needed sometimes since there are no hints or tutorial but it's not overly so. And it's not too simple that adults won't enjoy it for a quick time wasted.
I agree with the reviews that mention the "best" age seems to be 6 thru 12 with possible adult help for the younger players. Since it is intuitive some kids may not be mentally developed yet to play without assistance.
You've got to line up the Zs and then the child is sucked through the clock at which point the game begins and you have to figure out what to do next. If you get stuck just start tapping stuff on the screen. Something will happen to give you an idea of what to do next.
All in all a fun game and I'm gonna look into the other apps he's created that have been mentioned.
I have a range of ages from teen to early elementary children. This game blows! It starts out cute, has some puzzles you have to figure out, then there are ones ripped off from the puzzle game sugar and then an annoying one that only allows you to turn one way.
This is adorable. Simple graphics, but really engaging. It makes you want to pick it up and do somehting with it, and the fact that you have to figure out what to do is part of the fun. There are no stepby-steps and NO hints. Either you catch on from clues in the level, or you don't. I thought it would be too simple/silly for my great gaming skills, but I cant stop going back to it when I have a spare minute. It's just too cute, too soothing, and I want this little guy to get where he needs to be. We're friends now.
My three and a half year old figured out the process but it's too slow paced for her. Kind of meditative. The older kids, say ten or so, play from time to time. Reminds me of Quell in a way.
Bart Bonte has shown to be one of the best indie developers out there. His creations are simple, fun, and beautiful, with great music and sound effects.
This latest offering combines previously used code modules in new, innovative puzzles designed primarily, evidently, for children and stands as a great example of how to reuse existing code! [See Sugar, Sugar] Children seem the natural audience, since for adults it is a bit too slow and too simple.
Strangely odd - for a Bart Bonte app - is that Sweet Drmzzz feels a bit rough around the edges: the puzzles and the mechanics are soon too complicated for younger children. I played with this with my 6-year-old daughter who is pretty bright but grew frustrated after a number puzzles; quickly I was doing them for her.
My preference is that if the app detects that the player is having difficulty, it would be good to have 'hints' or other indicators to help him or her figure out what to do when they encounter a new puzzle. For example, one of the puzzles is that you have to match the color scheme of the aliens on the distant asteroid. While it took my just a moment to figure out what the puzzle was asking, she never made the connection. Also, the 'sugar' puzzles would greatly benefit from an eraser for little ones. Perhaps hints and erasers could be implemented with on/off features in the settings.
BOTTOM LINE: It's a Bart Bonte app, so definitely worth the dough. Any other developer and this would be a five-star app, but I hold Mr. Bonte up to a higher standard: himself.
The game play is very easy and intuituve, without any help you can asume what you have to do and the graphis are simple but good.
However the game becomes tedious as much as you progress because some scenarios require close attention to finish them, the number of steps are as many that you could become desperate even before you start the scenario, because although they are simple tasks require hard work and patience.
A cute simple concept. There are no directions, you have to figure it out, but it's pretty intuitive. Fairly simple game but it gets increasingly challenging - even downright hard. It's essentially a series of back to back mini games so you can play for as long or short a time as you want. I had it lock up once, but I just exited the program and went back in and it worked. I really enjoy this little game. Seems to have a lot of levels, I'm past level 30, with more to go.
Love the games. A little challenging at times, but simple fun. However, it stopped working when my phone automatically installed the update for Android. Several of my apps did. One of the customer service people for Garmin told me is is a known issue and they are working on a fix. So...why don't these people do a "fix"???
