AT&T customers aren’t the only ones that are able to get their hands on a new PadFone device from ASUS, now that they launched their non-US variant model of the PadFone X that has been available at AT&T since last month, the PadFone S which has just launched for consumers in their home market of Taiwan. Along with the PadFone S ASUS has also just launched a 4G LTE version of the ZenFone 5, so now consumers in the region that had been interested in the device but wanted faster network capabilities will have the option. Both devices have the possibility of launching in other regions outside of Taiwan but it is unlikely that we would see the PadFone S launch here since we already have the PadFone X. However that is also an exclusive carrier device at this point so anything is possible.

Both the PadFone X and the PadFone S may share the same basic idea, deliver a phone and tablet dock that can provide the user with a seamless experience between a smaller and larger screen for when they need either one. When it comes to the makeup though the PadFone S(also being the newer device, kind of)has slightly more performance minded and powerful specs, like the Snapdragon 801 CPU for example compared to the 800 model chip used in the PadFone X. That extra power and performance should come in handy for all of the multi tasking one might need to do, that is after all one of the major benefits of this device. The PadFone S also has a couple of other features that aren’t present on the PadFone X, as the S has wireless charging support and a special coating to make it splash proof(which we’ll take to mean water resistant to a degree). The PadFone S is slated to cost an equivalent of about $500 USD.

Since the ZenFone 5 is just a phone, it’ll cost significantly less than the PadFone S, and is said to be retailing in Taiwan for around the equivalent of $234 USD. If you choose to pick up the 4G LTE model of the ZenFone 5 you’ll be getting a Snapdragon 400 quad-core CPU inside rather than the Intel based CPU in the 3G model, along with a comfortable and capable 2GB of RAM. Internal memory is set at 8GB but it does have a microSD card slot for expandable storage. There’s also a 2,110 mAh battery, and the 4G LTE ZenFone 5 features the same 5-inch IPS display and 8MP rear camera. Both the PadFone S and the 4G LTE ZenFone 5 will be running Android 4.4 Kit Kat out of the box.
