Elite: Dangerous Offline Mode Dropped, Hit With Community Backlash

VRFocus - It's now just over a month until Frontier Developments launches the full version of Elite: Dangerous, the anticipated virtual reality (VR) compatible space simulation experience. The PC title has been subject to extensive Beta testing throughout 2014 in which fans have been able to sample large portions of the videogame ahead of its release to ensure that it is as feature-complete as promised in the title's hugely successful Kickstarter campaign that ended last year. However it appears that one feature mentioned in that campaign that won't be making it into the full title is an offline mode.

OMG no why why why, i was really looking forward to single-player offline experience... WHY ?!?!? :[

Somebody3454d ago

It's like Planetary Annihilation in reverse. A lot of promises during crowd funding and early access...pulled the rug before/at/post launch. I still can't play PA even to this day.

Trotar3453d ago

There is still single-player online.
That should work just fine with a slow connection, so there is no need to worry at all really.

Jadenkorr0213454d ago

After promising offline mode then reneging a month before launch is not ok.

Somebody3454d ago

I didn't follow this game's development as closely as most people but it has my attention. It is in my wishlist because of the promised offline mode but now it's close to be being crossed out.

Cy3454d ago

Okay, then the money I was going to spend on this game is also dropped.

Ogygian3454d ago

And this game edges a step closer to simply being an inferior Star Citizen.

Pogmathoin3454d ago

This is Elite.... Everyone wants this to succeed.... Knowing Braben, there is some explaining to do though.....

This is a great space exploration game.

Markdn195d ago

Shame it's no longer supported though, :(

anast195d ago

A revive might be needed.

MrNinosan195d ago (Edited 195d ago )

What do you mean by quietly?
They announced it last week along the other games that was released yesterday on PS+ Extra/Premium.

GamerRN194d ago

They are trying to make it look like a casual drop, while trying to make it look like it outshines Starfield.

ModsDoBetter195d ago

Great game, sadly abandoned by the developers due to the different version it ran compared to PC.

Plenty of hours to be had, we just miss out on a bunch of cool features and story development compared to PC players.

raWfodog195d ago

I was bummed when they announced they wouldn’t be bringing Odyssey to consoles. That was when I really began losing active interest in the game. Up until then, I already had about 800 hours invested in the game.

PunksOnN4G195d ago

Nah I'm good this the dev team that had console plans then decided not to and only work on the PC version why would I support a trash company

z2g195d ago (Edited 195d ago )

its ok. its def a pc game that made its way to console randomly. been out for a few years so its not exactly "new".
