Summer sessions: Gilles Peterson exclusive mix

This article is more than 9 years old

In the first of our new series of exclusive mixtapes to get you in the mood for a summer of partying, Gilles Peterson shares this selection of smooth grooves

We've all got our favourite summer tracks; songs that remind us of chilling on the beach, speeding down the road with the window open or partying in the sun with friends.

We've asked DJs, musicians and producers to put together their perfect summer soundtrack, an exclusive mix of the tracks that they feel really capture the spirit of the season.

Kicking things off is Radio 6 DJ, producer and crate-digger extraordinaire Gilles Peterson, who has put together this mix for us in the run up to his performance at Sunsplash Festival in Turkey next week, where he has a residency.

Serkan Cetin, friend of Peterson and founder of Sunsplash, feels the mix is a good introduction to the festival. "Many of the characteristics of our beach parties are here," he says. "The soulful, bubbly baselines, uplifting vocals, deep rolling beats, a hint of jazz and overall positive atmosphere."

Sunsplash takes place at Aspat Beach in Bodrum from the 1-8 June. For more information visit sunsplash-festival.com.
