The woman said her 30-year-old son invited a woman to the residence who he had met a few times over two years but only knew her by her first name, didn't have a telephone number for her and didn't know where she lived, police said. The son said the woman's mother may live somewhere in the Southfield Avenue area, police said.
While the woman was at the home, the son went to the bathroom and left her in the living room, police said. When he came out, he saw the woman rush from the area of his mother's bedroom and begin to act strangely, police said.
He eventually asked her to leave and hasn't seen her since, police said. The mother reported the missing jewelry on Saturday to police.
An $8,000 topaz diamond ring, a $7,700 diamond bracelet and a $5,000 diamond engagement ring were among the missing items, Sgt. Kelly Connelly said.
