The tiny, speckled Darien stubfoot toad [atelopus certus] is is a tropical toad endemic to Darien Provence in Panama. To some it is known as the Toad Mountain Harlequin frog. Like all harlequins, this toad’s skin expresses vivid coloration that one might not expect to see in a member of the “true toad” family.

This toad is listed as endangered, and is believed to be in decline as chytridiomycosis continues to spread throughout South America.
