(PIX11) — Last week, 5 million Gmail usernames and passwords were reportedly posted on a Russian bitcoin forum.

The Daily Dot reports that much of the sensitive information was out-of-date, but a security hack of any kind is troubling.

The list has since been taken down, but there is a tool that allows you to easily check if your account has been compromised.

Simply type your email address into the Security Alert tool to see if your account has been exposed.

Also, Gmail users can set up 2-step Verification, which requires entering a password and verification code before gaining access to the email account.

As a precaution, always use strong passwords and avoid using the same password for multiple accounts.
