New York Times bestselling author Christopher Kennedy Lawford revisits addiction in his latest book, What Addicts Know, this time framing the discussion in an entirely new way—the lessons addiction and recovery offer to those of us who haven't battled addiction.

For too long, society has considered addicts as an unfortunate group that faces incredible and unique challenges. The reality is that the challenges of the addict are faced—to a greater or lesser extent—by all of us.

In a “more is better" society, it's indisputable that we've all experienced cravings and denied the truth about our destructive behaviors—traits shared by addicts who've successfully overcome them.
What Addicts Know offers the coping and wellness skills necessary to overcome life's obstacles and self-improvement tips for everything from conquering an unhealthy consumption of junk food, to overcoming toxic relationships. These techniques are not just for addicts; they are for all of us.

No one until now has related the lessons and life skills that can be drawn from the collective experience of people in recovery from addiction, particularly the ways those lessons or principles can be used by those in the broader non-recovery community. In
What Addicts Know, Lawford recounts the inspiring stories and wisdom of recovering addicts, combining them with cutting-edge scientific findings to give hands-on, practical techniques for recognizing unhealthy impulses and managing them.

If you're ready to change for the better your habits, your frame of mind, your relationships, your community, and your life,
What Addicts Know is the resource that will educate and inspire you along the way.

Coming from a family of addiction, the pain and suffering piece is clearly in place. WHAT ADDICTS KNOW offers a new perspective. The author does not glamorize addiction, but rather helps us see how the strength of recovery as a positive force in our lives. Not only does this work for the addict, but for all of us who hang around on the periphery of addiction and recovery.

This book gave me the big picture, looking from the addicts side of his battlefield. It gave me much more respect for the addicts who really want to come clean having to fight this addiction world of ours with their whole heart and soul, it's do or die. Now I can appreciate how easy we had it years ago compared to the rapid growing drug problem of today's world. I am a 72yr old grandmother witnessing my grandchildren fall into this trap. Our society can't afford the price of defeat for we all are addicts or come from families with addiction. I certainly would recommend this book to all parents and grandparents making them aware that we don't own our children they are on loan to us. We owe it to our children to learn all we can and in turn pass it to our children at a very young age before it's too late.

The book is easy to read - not technical, but I was hoping for a book to help understand addicts better. This book didn't do that. I do think it would be good for a recovering addict to read to see what skills they have learned and how to apply these skills to their "recovering life."
