Ex-pilot allegedly used uniform to bypass security line in Honolulu
An ex-pilot is in trouble with the law after using his former employer's uniform and badge to bypass a security checkpoint at the Honolulu International Airport.
40-year-old Joshu Osmanski pleaded guilty today to unlawfully entering the secure area of Honolulu International Airport in 2013.
Osmanski was terminated from his job with Cathay Pacific Airlines in 2012, but allegedly used his pilot uniform, pilot identification and airport security badge to bypass TSA screening at Honolulu Airport on January 26, 2013. He is not accused of posing a threat to aviation or having the intention to do so.
Osmanski said he used his badge so he could "cut the line" and not have to remove his shoes during security screening. He said he was traveling to the mainland for training with his new employer.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI and NCIS following a tip from the public. Osmanski was indicted by a Honolulu Federal Grand Jury on March 25, 2014.
His sentencing is set for February 2015. If Osmanski is found guilty he could face up to 10 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
