When we first heard about the Withings Activité watch tracker in June, a price of $390 was on the cards; now that pre-orders have officially opened for the wearable device, the cost has been set at $450. That’s above the price of your average Android Wear smartwatch (the LG G Watch R retails for $300) but you get plenty of style and sophistication for your cash.

If you want something that looks more like a watch than a cut-down smartphone then the Withings Activité might be just what you’re looking for. Encased in scratch-proof touch-sensitive sapphire glass and a stainless steel finish, the watch is water-resistant and uses a standard watch battery — that means it can last for 8 months, at which point you replace it and start again.

There are no phone notifications or email alerts on the Activité — the only smart functions are its fitness tracking capabilities, which can keep an eye on how many steps you take throughout the day and the quality of the sleep you’re getting (there’s a smart vibrating alarm that can wake you up in the morning too). All of this data syncs wirelessly with an accompanying smartphone app that lets you review your progress and set new goals. Only an iOS app is available at the moment but an Android version is on the way.

Other features include the ability to instantly detect when you go swimming and automatic time zone switching when you’re traveling around the globe. If you’re prepared to put your $450 down for a Withings Activité then there are black or white models available. Delivery is promised before the general launch at the end of November, though the wearable device is currently listed as out of stock, so you might have to hang on a little longer.

I finally got an Apple Watch Ultra. Here are 3 ways it surprised me
Apple Watch Ultra with Starlight Alpine Loop on wrist.

The first Apple Watch (later dubbed Series 0) originally came out in April 2015, but I was skeptical at that point. I eventually gave in a few months later and bought an Apple Watch to replace my old Fitbit, and I haven’t turned back since.

My first Apple Watch lasted several years before I upgraded to an Apple Watch Series 3, which I purchased because the price on those had fallen low enough to make me go, “Why not?” Then in 2019, Apple showed off the Apple Watch Series 5, which was a huge turning point for the Apple Watch because of the always-on display. I purchased the titanium version of that, and it has served me well for the past three years — thanks to the titanium material, it still looks brand new.

The Apple Watch Ultra’s Action button should be better than this
Apple Watch Ultra being worn showing off the Action Button.

When Apple announced the Apple Watch Ultra last September, I was excited about it. It wasn’t something that I needed at the time, but I loved that it’s pretty much the first big change for the Apple Watch product as a whole since the Apple Watch Series 5. The design of the Ultra is completely different from the Apple Watch Series 8, and — of course — it has the Action button.

Oh, the Action button. Aside from the Digital Crown and side button, the Apple Watch Ultra has a unique Action button, accented in a bright orange, that lets you quickly launch an action — such as starting a workout, opening the Workouts app, using the Apple Watch Ultra as a flashlight, launching a shortcut, and more. People love the Action button, plenty of them have given it praise, and I thought it was one of the cooler features of the Apple Watch Ultra.

I ditched my smartwatch for a fitness tracker, and I couldn’t be happier
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, worn on a wrist.

I love a good deal, so I couldn’t resist grabbing the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic when its price got knocked down by the Galaxy Watch 5's release. Last year's Samsung smartwatch is gorgeous, packed with useful features, and I can safely say I've never used anything like it.

My time with the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has been great, and I've really loved the thing. But I’m also going back to using the much simpler Polar Pacer Pro. Here’s why.
Why I love the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic
