Box Score FAIRFIELD, CONN. – Two 45 minute halves and a pair of 10 minute overtimes weren't enough to decide a winner as the Marist Red Foxes (5-2-3, 1-0-1 MAAC) and the Fairfield Stags (3-3-2, 0-1-1 MAAC) played to a scoreless draw Saturday night at Lessing Field in Fairfield, Conn.
Last season on senior day the Red Foxes suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime defeat against Fairfield but were able to hold on to the draw and the point this time around.This is the second MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) opponent in a row that the Red Foxes have earned points from compared to their results against the same teams last year.
In a physical match that saw a total of 40 fouls, eight yellow cards, and a red card between the two teams the closest either team got to scoring came from a shot that hit the post from Fairfield Sophomore Martin Lindgren in the 49th minute.
The Red Foxes played down a man for the final 12 minutes of regulation and both overtimes after a second yellow card to freshman defenseman Kevin Kappock (Howell, N.J.) in the 78th minute.
The Red Foxes totaled seven shots in the game to the Stags eight shots, both teams tallied two shots on goal resulting in two saves a piece from Marist goalkeeper, freshman Mark Rajovic (Katonah, N.Y.) and Fairfield's goalkeeper, junior Matt Turner. Rajovic earned his fifth shutout of the young season and has been impressive in goal to date.
Freshman midfielder Brandon Curtis (Stony Point, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Dylan Lee (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) both contributed with shots on goal and the Red Foxes best chances of the night.
The Red Foxes have yet to allow a goal in two trips to Connecticut this season, proving that their defense travels well. Marist played Sacred Heart earlier in the year and returned home with a 1-0 victory.
The Red Foxes return home to take on Iona in another MAAC game on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Tenney Stadium.
