THANKS to Barbara Davis of West Stafford for this trip down memory lane to Cerne Abbas.
The photo above is of Cerne Abbas School pupils waiting to go into St Mary’s Church for an end-of-term service, accompanied by headmaster Hugh Reynolds.
The picture was taken in 1959 or 1960 in Abbey Street outside the church.
Barbara, nee Drew, said: “The pupils I recognise are Kristina Fox, third on the right under the canopy in front of the solitary pupil. I’m in front of Kristina Fox, and Ruth Stenhouse is in front of me.
“Mary Miles, with her back to the camera, is the only girl with plaits.”
Barbara remembers that the end-of-term service featured readings from pupils.
She said: “It was quite a frightening experience for those who had to get up in the pulpit and read in church.
“There were no microphones in those days!”
DOES anyone recognise any of these schoolchildren in the photo or are you pictured yourself? If so, get in touch with Looking Back on 01305 830973 or email joanna.davis@dorsetecho.co.uk
