Summary
Buck frowns, knees relaxing, “Eds, do you not know what a gift means?”
“Yeah, dad, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.” Christopher calls from inside the Jeep, extending a hand for the bag housing the donut, “I thank you very much for your gift, Buck.”
“See,” Buck turns to give Chris the donut, “Chris knows what a gift is.”
Eddie rolls his eyes, “Chris, you just read the Odyssey, you know that looking a gift horse in the mouth is exactly what you should do.”
If Eddie looked the proverbial gift-horse in the mouth he would probably see all of Buck’s ooey-gooey feelings disguised as Dunkin branded coffee and donuts. Buck does not want Eddie to look the gift horse in the mouth.
“Eddie,” Buck extends the holder, Eddie’s pecan vanilla latte closest to him, “take the latte.”
“I’m going to CashApp you the five dollars.” Eddie says it like a threat, taking the cup and a paper-wrapped straw.

Summary
They’re halfway through the quarter, October’s end is rapidly approaching, and it’s easier than Buck expected to get people in the department to think they don’t like each other. Most of the time they just don’t talk or look at each other. Other times they bicker over the littlest things, Eddie usually defaults to saying he doesn’t care for birds, and Buck finds one of Eddie’s favorite theorists to shit talk. It’s fun, there’s a thrill in the debrief on the way home after Buck picks Eddie up a little ways away from the department, and he loves watching the looks other faculty give them in meetings like they’re on the edge of their seats waiting for something to happen.
(or: 5 times Buck and Eddie convinced everyone they're academic rivals +1 time everyone found out they were married)

Summary
Buck takes a contemplative sip of his soda, Sprite bubblinging in his mouth. He’s gotten some of his furniture second hand before but for whatever reason he didn’t consider a thrift store the place to get a couch. He thought he should get something shiny and new, a couch that says ‘hi, I’m Buck, an adult, on my A game after my ex took her couch’, but he’s going home empty handed. All of the couches here were shiny and new, yes, but none of them were right. None of them were what Buck wanted, what Chris or Eddie wanted. And going home, back to the uncomfortable armchair that’s too small for his long legs, too slippery for Chris, and too awkward for Eddie, makes Buck want to hide away in the artificial rooms IKEA puts together.
(or: Buck's perfect couch isn't one from IKEA)

Summary
When he first started seeing Frank, Eddie had to write out a list of his goals.
Frank asked him to do it after their first session, homework, he called it.
So Eddie sat at his dining room table, Christoper settled across from him scratching away at his homework, and stared at a blank sheet of wide ruled paper. His knuckles went white around the pen in his hand, his grip getting tighter and tighter until Christopher poked one knuckle with the eraser of his pencil and forced Eddie to relax.
Every night, for six nights, Eddie sat at the table and looked at the blank piece of paper and couldn’t get himself to write anything. Any thoughts, any goals he had vacated the premises of his mind at the sight of white paper with blue and red lines.
Finally, in the parking lot outside the building holding Frank’s suite, where the man’s probably waiting for him in a soft looking sweater and a neutral expression, Eddie laid the paper over his steering wheel. Over the bumps and ridges of the truck’s logo, of the leather’s texture, he wrote:
Feel normal again
(Or: the one where Eddie and Buck love each other very much but Eddie's gotta work through stuff)

Summary
“So,” The Devil drops Buck’s hand, clapping together its own and looking around like it's trying to suss out what this summoning is all about, as if it doesn’t already know, putting on the mask of humanity for Buck’s sake, “what did you call me for? What favor can I do for you that you will pay back in return?”
The question brings a little reality back to Buck. His parents words, his childhood, the reason he was born making themself known in his brain and bones once more. Buck frowns, unsure how to phrase it, unsure if it's a one prompt and done situation or if he’s going to be asked clarifying questions, “I’d like to be loved.”
If the Devil has eyebrows, Buck’s pretty sure they’re raised.
“Buck,” the Devil says, like Buck is an idiot, “you cannot ask for something you already have, that is not how this works. Do you truly not think you are loved?”

Summary
It’s unexpected, and the softness that Prince Henry maintains is a shock to his system.
It makes him want to say something, even if it’s only to ask how his day was or to request an explanation for why he spent nearly fifteen fucking minutes looking at Cupid and Psyche with a forlorn look in his eyes. When he moves on, Alex gazes up at the sculpture and tries to discern the magic that must have captured the prince’s attention, but he comes up with no answers.
Which makes him want to ask more.
But he isn’t supposed to.

Summary
Eddie’s eyes are squeezed shut, and Buck feels something inside him crack when this helpless, devastated sob wracks his body, eyelashes clumped with tears he’s not letting fall.
“Fuck,” he says, wobbly. “I just—God, I feel fucking insane. I know, logically—fuck.”
“What do you need?” Buck asks again. “What can I do?”
Eddie makes a frustrated noise. “I don’t know. I don’t know why this won’t stop.”
“Okay,” Buck says, trying desperately to think of what he finds comforting when he’s in a bad place. Or what Eddie reaches for when he needs comfort. The answer is simple enough—a literal reach for each other, reassurance in the magnetism with which they lean into the other’s orbit. A hand on a shoulder, a press of bodies beside each other, a nudge of knees under the table. “Can I, uh. Can I touch you?”
or, eddie panics. buck holds him.

Summary
He squeezes Buck’s bare, sun warmed skin before he drops the contact, and strolls over to where Chim and Tommy are waiting.
If he stands a little too close to his teammate, well. He’ll never admit it.
Buck comes back into his line of vision, already back to looking like he’s a second away from stomping off the court.
Eddie’s giddy with it.
…or, how an elbow to the face changes everything.
