Fun STEM Saturday Kids Classes Begin December 6 at JCC on the Hudson

STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) enrichment for K-6 begins ASAP at JCC in Tarrytown.

As the weather chills down, and parents look for worthwhile indoor activities for their children, the JCC on the Hudson is stepping up with fun classes rooted in STEM—science, technology, engineering and math.

“We think STEM enrichment is so important that we are not even waiting for the traditional start of our winter programming to offer it,” said Lisa Feinman, Assistant Executive Director at the JCC on the Hudson in Tarrytown. The JCC is stepping up with the first two of a series of weekend STEM courses for grades K-3 and 4-6. These first courses will run 10 Saturdays, from December 6 through March 7.

Mad Science: Crazy Chemworks is a great course to spark imaginative (scientific) thinking. The group will combine elements and make them fizz, crackle and change color! They’ll delve into molecules and chemical reactions that produce light, gas, and even slime. Each week, kids will look into topics with names such as p.H. Phactor, Slime Time, The Glow Show, Dry Ice Capades and Icky Sticky Stuff!

3D Printing and Prototyping, presented by the Digital Arts Experience, will investigate the amazing 3D printer: how to prepare and operate a MakerBot printer, and how to model an object from scratch. Each student will create a product of their own design.

The fees are $275; $250 JCC member, per course. To register, go to http://www.JCContheHudson.org or call (914) 366-7898. The JCC is located at 371 S. Broadway in Tarrytown, at the crossroads of Rt. 119. I-287, I-87, and the Tappan Zee Bridge.
