VP Binay camp downplays death threat on Alan Cayetano

The camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday dismissed the claim of Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano's office that he received a death threat on Wednesday, saying it was merely part of the senator's "squid tactics."

"Ano na 'yun squid tactics, 'yung death threats na 'yan," Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, Binay's spokesperson for political concerns, told reporters in a chance interview.

"Habang wala nang pumapansin sa hearing, habang bumabagsak ang ratings ng hearing, habang bumabagsak ang ratings niya (Cayetano), gumagawa na lang siya ng istorya para mapansin uli," he added.

Cayetano, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and Sen. Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III are conducting the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee inquiry on the alleged overpricing of the P700-million Makati City Hall Building II.

Binay is being accused of having benefited from the padded costs.

On Wednesday night, the staff of Cayetano received a phoned-in death threat against the senator

Remulla denied that the Vice President had a hand in the threat made against Cayetano.

"The Vice President has never resorted to intimidating or threatening. Hindi siya kasama sa ganiyang klaseng gawain," he said. —NB, GMA News
