Binay eyeing Escudero as one of possible VP bets in 2016

Senator Francis Escudero is among those being considered to be the running-mate of Vice President Jejomar Binay in the 2016 national elections.

“Kasama po si Senator Escudero na kinokonsidera namin maging vice president, among others,” Binay admitted Thursday in an interview with a local radio station during his visit in Sorsogon, home province of Escudero.

He said that when former President Joseph Estrada ran for president in 2010, Estrada considered Escudero to be his runningmate but the latter backed out.

“Nung hindi na po siya nagpatuloy, doon na po ako napili ni Pangulong Erap,” Binay said.

The Vice President, however, said 2016 was still a long way to go and he is considering everybody to be his runningmate.

“Malayo pa ang tatahakin natin. Hayaan niyo po at darating din po tayo sa pagkakataon na sasabhin namin kung sino ang aming magiging pangalawang pangulo,” said Binay.

Escudero earlier said that he had no plan yet for 2016.

On Wednesday, Binay said he preferred a successful businessman to be his runningmate.

“Sana makakuha ako ng Vice President na successful businessman.(Someone) coming from the private sector. Hindi elected official, hindi politiko, kasi natutunan ko as a mayor, no revenue, no project,” he said.

“Kung may kasama akong negosyanteng successful, we can convince a lot of businessman para lalo pang gumanda ang ekonomiya natin. Iyon ang maganda. Mayroon akong naiisip, pero everybody is being considered,” Binay said. —NB, GMA News
