Wolfenstein: The New Order Day 1 Patch On Xbox One And PS4 Is A Huge Download

GearNuke: "Wolfenstein: The New Order is set to release soon on current generation and previous generation consoles along with the PC. As it is usual with most of these releases, Wolfenstein: The New Order is also going to get a Day 1 patch. It appears that the Patch for the PS4 and Xbox One version is quite a hefty download."

Wow. 5GB patch! I feel for those with slow internet. May take them 3 days to download the patch to play the game... Or at least, play it without issues. Sucks, you buy a game at retail and still have to wait a day or more to play it. Not to mention, those who buy or have preordered it digitally and have to download the patch on top of the 20 some odd GBs for the full game.

They have to get this under control. Half a GB, maybe... 5? Almost the size of a full AAA game last gen.

bleedsoe9mm3636d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

7.3 for the xb1 version and its a big game already 47gb . a bluray is what 50gb , would have had to put it on a second disc , probably didn't want to spend the money .

PsylentKiller3635d ago

Most patches generally replace most of the data as opposed to adding more. For example, with this patch, 4GB may be deleted from the original 47GB. Which means only 1GB is added, making the total HDD space used for the game is 48GB

bleedsoe9mm3635d ago

@PsylentKiller maybe but most patches aren't 5-7 gb either , its at least suspicious if you ask me

Eonjay3635d ago

I think HDD upgrades may become necessary sooner than we thought.

Codey473635d ago

@bleedsoe
Don't wanna be a pedantic prick but I'm gunna anywho.

A dual layer blu ray disc is up to 50GB
single layer is halved.

DJMarty3635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

bleedsoe9mm - Blu-ray can do single/double/triple & quad layer discs. But that not the reason that the patch is not on disc at retail, its usually due to the game been worked on by devs even after the game has gone gold(to get pressed). Game goes gold weeks/months before retail release ships.

theXtReMe1 - 5Gb the same as a AAA game of last gen. Clearly your refering to 360's crappy DVD games. PS3 AAA games used Blu-ray, games were way bigger.

MonstaTruk3635d ago

@Eonjay

Mine was upgraded to 1TB on Day One (PS4). I am at almost 300gbs, though...

Absolutely ridiculous, and well bloody said.

joydestroy3635d ago

i don't think that's too terribly bad. i do feel for those that have a slow internet connection. it'll take about 50min for me on PS4 and i'm okay with that.

showtimefolks3635d ago

are these games really that big like 20-30 GB or are the developers just not compressing anything since we have Bluray disk now?

theXtReMe1

i agree man this has to get better hopefully it will

DLConspiracy3635d ago

That's the world we live in now. It's easier to work on the patch than hold back production like they did in the old days. It's multitasking. Still I feel bad for those with super slow internet or bandwidth caps. That's a big pain in the ass. I am buying a disc for this one.

Deadpoolio3635d ago

WTF do you mean like they did in the old days...LMAO in the old days if a game was broken it stayed broken, they didn't do a re-release they didn't release a patch...It was thank you and good day...If you have super slow internet gaming should probably be the last of your concerns...I say that only because I personally have become waaaayyyyy more hateful of these damn people with slow internet dragging an entire MP game down because they refuse to stay offline

DLConspiracy3635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

@deadpoolio

I am not a little kid. I know how things work. I am old enough that I have been playing games for more than 30 years now.

However, you can't just blame "slow internet dragging an entire MP game down" on everyone. While you may have the OPTION of choosing which speed you get, others get bandwidth caps and slower connections because of their ISP. This isn't an online MP game anyhow. I wish more people had better options but they don't.

sgtGanGreen3635d ago

3 days for 5GB? Slowest internet you can get today can download 5gb in 2.5h

MRMagoo1233635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

I have a feeling you have no clue what you are talking about lol, you do know down load rates are set as bits per second not bytes right ?

Benchm4rk3635d ago

Come over to Australia then and see some of our internet speeds and you will see first hand how long 5GB will take to download

badvlad3635d ago

slow internet in 2014 haa

5 gb patch?that's a load crap,totally unacceptable
i am from kenya where fast internet speeds is had to come by

cfc783636d ago

Is had to come by worse than hard to come by lol, only joking bro i know what you mean this is a huge pain in the arse.

Transporter473635d ago

just play and don't patch it, or patch it during night time, i feel for you even though i have fast internet. 5GB patch is way too big for day 1 AAA games that's unacceptable at least on my eyes. Although I think this is going to be a trend this generation...

Hazmat133636d ago

F*UCK i have the worst internet possible. time to wait 6 years to play a game!

PsylentKiller3635d ago

I know it costs a bit extra but if you are able to rent the game you could download it from the disc and then purchase the digital copy. That way you don't have to wait years for a digital download. As far as the patch goes, I think you can opt out of it if you download the disc while disconnected from the internet. I've never done this but I heard of others doing it.

boldscot3636d ago

Disgraceful, I won't be getting this game.

Transporter473635d ago

unacceptable yes, but its a one time thing so you were probably not going to get it anyways if a patch changes your mind...

Summons753636d ago

And here is the reason we shouldn't accept day one patches. When we purchase a game it should be finished and playable by the time we go to the store and purchase it.

lemoncake3635d ago

No thanks, i rather have patches than bugs in games that never get fixed like in the old day.

Summons753635d ago

Small patches to fix bugs is one this and acceptable, but if the game is completely broken and unplayable that you need a 5gb day one patch then the game needs to be held back and go through extensive QA to make sure it IS playable. Unfinished products are NOT acceptable.

showtimefolks3635d ago

lemoncake

he is saying day one big patches.

DLConspiracy3635d ago

You have to be somewhat understanding about the situation. It's not like pressing a license plate. This is complex code that is running on numerous platforms. Patches are best for the game in the end.

Summons753635d ago

Yes small ones, not have 5gb ones that go to finishing the game. We should be buy an unfinished product.

Scheiße! Nein.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the best in the series. After that:
New Order
New Colossus
Old Blood

Harryvok628d ago

I really wish they'd remake Return to Castle Wolfenstein from the ground up. Easily the best of them all.
