Man arrested after horrific cat kicking video surfaced on Facebook to the horror of animal lovers who helped track him down

An horrific video shot last Friday and posted to Facebook that shows a man brutally kicking an innocent stray cat 20 feet through the air led to the alleged animal abuser's arrest Monday afternoon.

A man police claim is Andre Robinson, 21, first lures the friendly, gray cat over with an offer of a caress before he pulls back his foot and boots the creature into some bushes outside a Brooklyn housing complex.

In a shocking display of callousness, the man celebrates his cowardly act with a cackle and a little dance.

Brutal: The man, who police have identified as 21-year-old Andre Robinson, uses his right foot to boot the cat with all his might

But Robinson, who the New York Daily News reports has eight priors, probably wasn't laughing when police picked him up around 2pm on Monday.

One of those arrests, six of which are sealed, was for robbery at knifepoint.

He's now been charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

His arrest was a result, at least in part, of enraged animal lovers using the power of social media to track down a suspect.

'We were able to identify him as part of an investigation behind the video,' an NYPD source told the New York Post. 'People who saw were really disturbed by it.'

The cat was kicked into a bush during the incident, but a team from the North Shore Animal League managed to track him down after arriving at the Brooklyn housing complex on Tuesday

The incident occurred in Bedford-Stuyvesant in the courtyard of the Brevoort Houses on Ralph Avenue, according to police.

Good news and bad news: The cat flew some 10 feet into the air as the animal abuser cackled and did a little victory dance. But on Monday, police used the video posted to Facebook to help track down the suspect. He's now been charged with aggravated animal cruelty, though the cat has not been found and authorities are unsure if it survived

One of the first steps was identifying the area where of New York where the attack occurred.

One Facebook user used video enhancing software to blow up the scene and see details that later led police to identify the scene of the crime as the Brevoort Houses in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.

Residents of the housing complex told police the stray cat was a fixture in the area.

A veterinarian told the investigators that the cat suffered serious injuries from the kick.

However, attempts to find the feline have come up short and police remained unsure Monday night if the animal survived the savage attack.
