Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Story Taken “2 1/2 Years” To Write, Narrative “Extremely Important”

OnlySP: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare might have a single player campaign that’s actually worth paying attention to this year.

HyperBear3635d ago

Wow! Is all I can say...I guess time will tell if those 2.5 years for the story will have paid off, but maybe this a good sign of things to come for the COD franchise. Now that the cycle for COD games between the developers is now 3 years instead of 2.

Lightning Mr Bubbles3635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

Yeah right! That's a joke. This crap franchise needs to just go away and take all those frag boys with them. It's games like this that made storylines non existent from last gen's games.

As it is, good story's are rare in video games.

It makes me sick that some people would even associate Call of Duty and narrative. A game that 80% of it's players never even try the single player mode.

bradfh3635d ago

franchise will never go away, when you have people paying for them and im looking forward to play this campaign.

morganfell3635d ago

I will bet money that at least one time in the game you get knocked out and you wake up to some AI buddy bending over you giving you a hand and telling you that the two of you have to move.

Seriously.

It happens every game.

You are never the other guy helping up someone else.

mark3214uk3634d ago

lol im the opposite i love cod games for the campayne,i dont bother with the MP since black ops (to many campers)

Ricegum3634d ago

Lightning Mr Bubbles

You do realise you don't have to touch this franchise right, you can just ignore it and move along. The fact that you leave such a detailed comment in a Call of Duty article leads me to believe that you do somewhat actually appreciate the series.

edwick3634d ago (Edited 3634d ago )

did you know the actual number is only 30% of people that buy Call of Duty play the multiplayer.

AceBlazer133634d ago

Or how about the franchise stays and you never touch it? Because you hate it doesn't mean the millions that like it should lose it because of you.

I hate chocolate (yh screw me right) doesn't mean i'll wish it away from the people that like it. Or worse yet go into a chocolate thread and bitch about it.

PsylentKiller3634d ago

The story lines were never really bad. I always liked them except for Ghosts. The problem is the lack of innovation of gameplay. The game mechanics are solid. The story is good the gameplay is good. But being just good is bad after CoD 4 raised the bar so high. If we could get the innovation of the first Modern Warfare with the openness of objectives in CoD 3, I would be very happy. CoD is too linear.

Provide choice to the gamer and sales will be higher than ever.

Magicite3634d ago

I actually enjoy COD single player stories and have never played multiplayer.

I totally agree...I can't wait to COD comes out...I'm a huge COD. Fan and I don't care who knows it...I'm optiimistic

Zero-One3634d ago

Won't be holding my breath.

-Foxtrot3635d ago

Ha...yeah I bet it did

How hard would it be to write a Call of Duty story when it's mostly made up of explosions, gun fights, shoot outs and over the top action scenes.

They say roughly the same thing every year about certain topics on the game, we've finally got onto the single player story comments about how narrative is important.

randomass1713635d ago

Considering they actually bothered to change the engine for this one, I'm willing to believe just about anything as far as advancements go. Also Kevin Spacey.

-Foxtrot3635d ago

They only changed it because they had to...it was getting too dated and next gen had come along. They managed to scrape the bottom of the barrel with Ghosts last year but that was the last time they could use it.

We'll most likely see this engine used for the rest of this gen.

Kevin Spacey doesn't make a game by the way.

Majin-vegeta3635d ago

*Considering they actually bothered to change the engine for this one,

Oh you mean the same way they did for Ghost...oh wait thats right they lied.Until we see this so called "NEW ENGINE".I;m gonna call bs

DK_Kithuni_713635d ago

@-Foxtrot

I will buy this game because of Kevin Spacey. That guy rules!

Did not buy Ghosts. The multiplayer demo sucks butt.

randomass1713635d ago

@Vegeta

It was in the new trailer, I thought it was pretty obvious that they used a new engine from that.

Zero-One3634d ago

Buying into a sham because theres some actor in it? If Kevin Spacey was in a terrorist organisation, would you join it too because he's there.

Matt6663633d ago

Kevin Spacey is not god you know that right, it not a good enough reason to support the copy and past effort, also there are a lot better actors out there, for example Morgan Freeman, Samuel L Jackson.

trenso13633d ago

i dont believe it was an engine change they always say they modify it or whatever and that trailer didnt look that much better than past games, i dont believe a word they say until we have concrete proof in gameplay.

Wingsfan243635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

Sledgehammer's got to prove themselves for their first title, I'd be willing to think that they're going all out for this Call of Duty and Glen Schofield is a great creative director. We'll have to wait and see, but I have more faith in a new developer creating its first Call of Duty game to not be lazy over Infinity Ward.

Black Ops at least changed things up a bit and I disagree about that story being bland. I think it's one of the better ones of the series. Modern Warfare 3 was average at best, but by then we were all burned out by it.

Sledgehammer wasn't even the lead developer behind MW3, Infinity Ward was so you can't really put the blame on him for that one.

-Foxtrot3635d ago

Glen Schofield was behind Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 and both of them were pretty bad.

Like this year all we got back then was false promises and lies.

I just can't believe how much people get suckered into this vicious cycle every year. Learn from past actions.

Wingsfan243635d ago

Obviously he doesn't "make the game". But he's a great addition and will provide some great acting for the storyline. Just helps make the game a better experience.

Ghost_Nappa3635d ago

I thought blops 1 and 2 had good stories

Debaitable3635d ago

I'm sure most people who buy COD buy it for the multiplayer. The single player content is more of a bonus.

As someone who buys COD, I'm not expecting any big from the game. New maps, new guns & maybe a different theme. It's a quick game to pick up and play. It's not like BF4 or CSGO where one match takes 40-45mins.

At this point in the franchise, if you don't like the game, then don't buy it & stop bashing the articles. We get it. No one is force feeding you to. Let others enjoy what they enjoy.

this is the first CoD game since 2007's Call Of Duty 4 that is having a 3 year development cycle

Activision looks to redeem themselves with Advanced Warfare and Destiny

EA follow suit and don't rush BF5/Titanfall 2, Dice and Respawn are talented, treat them well, we want the old ps2 era EA and oh Bring back BF : BAD COMPANY

Brazz3635d ago

COD whith whit a good story? lol, i need to see this!

That is a shame. AW is my favourite CoD. I hope they do a sequel one day.

LordoftheCritics385d ago

Thoroughly enjoyed AW.

Good campaign and everything.

LOGICWINS385d ago

Same. Fantastic campaign, but I wasn't crazy about the jetpacks in multiplayer.

RaidenBlack385d ago

I still prefer CoD based on historical settings or in near future settings(like CoD: Ghost) ... even though I liked infinite Warfare's campaign ... it was top notch

CobraKai385d ago

I felt it was a good time to revisit WW2

porkChop385d ago

I actually really enjoyed WWII. I never understood the hate it got.

JEECE385d ago

A lot of people who never played a shooter prior to like 2012 get really mad about anything that isn't a modern combat game.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare remains the series' lone bright spot this gen

GR: "If one series truly defined the seventh generation of consoles it was Call of Duty. Sadly, the series has struggled to reach the same heights on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and only Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare feels like the previous era of innovation and top-notch storytelling."

I quite enjoyed it but I think black ops 3 was the high point.

Modern warfare could be if a few tweaks are made and the new maps are good.

Baza1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

Story wise.. black opps 3 was all over the place. Modern Warfare story is so much more cohesive and actually makes sense.

Immorals1634d ago

Black ops 3 was terrible. The story was absolutely atrocious.

Knushwood Butt1634d ago

I quit that campaign after about an hour. All I remember is some crappy robot drone combat R2D2 thing that you had to use. I didn't make it past that.

Epicor1634d ago

For me the Black Ops installations have always been the high peaks in terms of PVP mode. Black ops 3 campaign was pretty bad though. Advanced Warfare's campaign was pretty good, one of the best ones - but PVP was bad!

gamer91634d ago

LOL Advanced Warfare, too funny

1634d ago
Kabaneri1634d ago

The campaign was OK, but the guns sounded like cap guns and the multiplayer maps were not memorable at all.
