Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for: Barrie - Collingwood – Hillsdale - Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago

Environment Canada meteorologists say they are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, quarter to toonie size hail and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms moving northeastward through or toward the above regions are capable of producing very heavy downpours, large hail, and locally damaging wind gusts. Rainfall amounts of 50 mm in one hour are possible.

Peter Kimbell of Environment Canada tells CTV News there is no sign of any high wind rotation on Doplar therefore the potential is NOT there for tornado formation.

He says the storm will be heavy downpours, lightning with heavy winds at times.

Bob McIntyre says the weather watch remains in effect in our region. There is a heavy rainfall watch in Eastern Ontario with high wind warnings in South Western Ontario.
