    Bail not likely to improve Naresh Goyal's health, he is getting best possible treatment: court ruling
    ​​Special judge for cases under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), M G Deshpande, on April 10 rejected the 74-year-old businessman's bail application, filed on the ground that he suffers from numerous life-threatening medical conditions. ​​The court had, in February 2024, denied interim bail to Goyal when he sought relief on the ground that he was suffering from cancer. It, however, permitted him to undergo treatment at a hospital of his choice.

The threats, which escalated from an initial demand of Rs 20 crore, have prompted a police investigation. Last year, an individual from Bihar was arrested for making death threats to Ambani and his family.

    "The first email, seeking Rs 20 crore along with a threat of shooting him dead if the demand was not met, was received on Friday. On Saturday, this unidentified man sent a threat email seeking Rs 200 crore," the official said. A case has been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and a hunt is underway to nab the accused.
