LANCE ARMSTRONG ON ...

GOLFING IN IOWA DURING A BIKE RIDE

Armstrong said his days consistent of riding his bike in the morning and spending time with family during the day before playing golf.

Last year, Armstrong peeled off the RAGBRAI route to golf in Harlan — mingling with those who have homes along the course. He enjoyed it so much that he hopes to hit an Iowa course — or courses — again.

"Oh yeah, every day," said Armstrong, when asked whether he'll try to golf during this RAGBRAI. "What I'll do is, look at the finish town, assuming we're staying there, then I'll just Google X-Y-Z town (and) golf course and something will pop up.

"If it's close by, heck yeah. Cooler full of cold beer, my sticks …"

COURAGEOUS KID MAKES TOUGH DEMAND

The most memorable moment of Armstrong's five previous RAGBRAIs happened last year when a kid approached the former Tour de France winner on a tandem bike with his father.

"He was very polite and respectful and friendly, and he said, I'm going to butcher this a little bit, he said something like, 'I want an apology' or 'My mom wants an apology.' His mom wasn't there, he was with his dad. But the dad didn't say anything. But the kid on the back of the bike said, 'We want an apology.'

"Nobody's ever come up to me in the last 24 months, to my face, whether it be at a restaurant, in an airport, on a bike ride, and had the guts to say, 'I want a face-to-face apology.' "

Armstrong said the boy, whom he estimated to be about 10 years old, caused him to think. "I'll never forget that," he said.

What did Armstrong say?

"I said, 'You know what, I am sorry,' " he said. " 'And you tell your mom I'm sorry.' "

THE BARBARA WALTERS QUESTION

When asked a Barbara Walters-esque question, Armstrong paused.

At this point, would you forgive you?

"I'd be in the process, yeah," he said. "I have a different view. I think about it a lot. I know what happened on the positive side of things, and I know what happened on the negative. My scoreboard looks a little different than most people, naturally.

"I'd be in the process. But again, it doesn't matter what I think."

ONE CONDITION OF CHARITY GIG

When someone suggested helping raise money for the flood-hammered town of Rock Valley, Armstrong agreed.

And he made one tongue-in-cheek demand.

"As long as I get to drink on the job," he said, with a laugh. "It is Iowa. It is RAGBRAI, I should say."
