No terror threat for Undas –military

The military on Friday said it has not monitored any threat during the All Saints' and All Souls' Day holidays, where thousands are expected to flock to cemeteries and the provinces to visit their departed loved ones.

However, Armed Forces public affairs chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said soldiers will still be deployed to assist the Philippine National Police (PNP) in providing security in cemeteries.

Cabunoc noted that in Metro Manila, 17 officers and 85 enlisted personnel were deployed to support the PNP.

“Pero sa probinsya, I could not give you exact figures dahil sa mga infantry divisions, sa area commands, may sarili silang support sa ating PNP dun sa isinasagawang security operations," he said at a press briefing.

Aside from military personnel, K-9 units will also be deployed, he said.

Meanwhile, Cabunoc urged the public to remain vigilant, and report to authorities any suspicious character or unattended baggage.

“When it comes to security, it is everybody's responsibility,” he said. “Nananawagan kaming i-report ninyo po 'yung kahinahinalang mga baggage.”

“Mayroong mga kahinahinalang mga nilalang, mga indibidwal na hindi mo alam ano 'yung kanilang purpose, o pakay sa isang lugar lalo na sa matataong lugar,” he added.

For its part, the PNP is now on full alert, with more than 40,000 police personnel stationed nationwide to ensure a peaceful and orderly All Saints and All Souls Day holidays. —Amanda Fernandez/KBK, GMA News
