THERE are enough parties and drama to do the Roaring Twenties justice in this joyful and noisy episode.

It’s 1924 and the 34th wedding anniversary of our favourite transatlantic pair, Lord and Lady Grantham (Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern).

The couple are still living it up, but Britain’s first Labour government is in power and the aristocracy is worried.

Estate manager Tom Branson (Allen Leech), isn’t enjoying the changes either, saying: “I feel a shaking of the ground.”

There has to be an Emmy award in store for the show’s set-dressers and wardrobe department who have mastered the art of creating a visual feast.

The brilliant series opener will leave viewers dreaming of owning a luxurious wardrobe and a well-stocked pantry.

Best news for viewers is that Lady Mary has stopped moping

Best news for viewers is that Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) has stopped moping and is starting to think about finding a new husband and father for Master George (played by twins Oliver and Zac Barker).

Could Lord Gillingham (Tom Cullen) finally be the one?

Instead it’s the turn of Lady Edith as she pines for her errant lover, magazine editor Michael Gregson.

The father of her secret love child has not been seen since getting into a scuffle in Munich – perhaps after one too many beers at Oktoberfest.

And as if the show wasn’t classy enough, Richard E Grant makes quite an entrance at the start of episode two as his art-historian character gets into a fight without so much as creasing his dinner jacket.

Sunday night Downton is on its way back – at last.
