YOU would think a 6-1 win over Raith Rovers would be enough to ensure a break from the Hotline hammering for Rangers boss Ally McCoist. You’d be wrong.

The Bears still aren’t convinced about his managerial credentials or his handling of the power struggle within the club.

Bill Park, Bathgate, said: “McCoist has surpassed himself this time by backing both of the prospective buyers of Rangers, Dave King and Mike Ashley. If he’s to remain as manager he is obviously looking for a big transfer budget to squander on players.

“The present Livingston team is also the worst I have ever seen. It is time John McGlynn and his sidekick, Mark Burchill, were replaced.”

Jimmy Millar, Knightswood, said: “Even though we beat Raith 6-1, I would still rather see McCoist removed as manager. It’s a poor show that he’s hedging his bets by refusing to stick his neck out and back either King or Ashley in the power struggle for the club.

“Even if Rangers win the Championship title, I will want a new manager hired.”

John Walker, Glasgow, said: “McCoist made a statement which has left me confused.

“He insists Rangers cancelled a game against Cowdenbeath due to having players on international duty but I’ve looked at the team and can’t for the life of me see which three or four players he’s talking about.

“We now face a difficult trip to Central Park on a midweek winter’s night and that could come back to bite us.

“We also have difficult trips to Tynecastle and Easter Road in the next few months and I’m not confident about our chances in either game.”

Iain Calder, Glasgow, said: “Coisty is never shy about taking a punt on a horse or two but it’s incredible he’s not prepared to stick his neck out for either King or Ashley.

“He needs to stop being so ambiguous in his comments about the boardroom split because the only reason he’s in charge is that he has the respect of the fans. If he came out and made his views clearer, we would have a better idea of which direction the club should be heading.”

Celtic’s romp against Ross County also generated a few calls.

Ian Grant, Falkirk, said: “It’s unfortunate that Celtic won’t have John Guidetti available for the Europa League clash against FC Astra because he’s proving a major asset.

“It’s a massive game for Ronny Deila as a defeat would heap the pressure back on him. He needs to push on now and prove he’s the man to lead us forward.”

John Caw emailed to say: “Deila should take a leaf from Southampton boss Ronald Koeman’s book after the 8-0 win over Sunderland. They were eight up and still wanting more goals whereas Celtic were well ahead against County and dropped a few gears.

“A game lasts 90 minutes, not 45.”

Paul McArdle, Gourock, said: “The Ross County manager asked the ref for a new ball on Saturday. The whistler responded by saying: ‘I’ve already given you a ball.’

“The Ross County manager shouted back: ‘I know – but Celtic are playing with that one.’”

Kilmarnock are flying high in the Premiership and sit fourth, three points ahead of Celtic, but some punters are still unhappy with the way Michael Johnston is running the club.

Tom Clark, Kilmarnock, said: “I’m a season ticket holder but I won’t be back at Rugby Park until Michael Johnston is removed.”

James Robertson, Glasgow, said: “I was delighted to see the campaign for Show Racism the Red Card highlighted at the weekend. There is still sectarian singing at grounds and bigotry so we need to get this scourge out of our game.”

Tributes for our own Chris Roberts continue to flood in. Lyndsey MacGregor, Glasgow, said: “I had loads of great conversations with Chris and he wasn’t just one of the best, he was the best.”

Alan Lough, Dunbar, added: “I would like to pass on my condolences.”
