Veteran comedy actor Steve Martin was hilarious as the overprotective George Banks in the 1991 movie Father of the Bride and its 1995 sequel.

But one of the biggest stars of that movie was undoubtedly the beautiful colonial home where the wedding of George’s daughter Annie took place.

The house used for filming the movie is now on the market for $US1.98 million.

In 2011 the house was purchased for $US1.275 million, so the current owners stand to make a profit of more than $US700,000 if it sells for the asking price.

The elegant 1925 double-storey home features four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a regal entry hallway, stylish living room, large formal dining room and a walnut-panelled study.

There’s also a bright sunroom and a new gourmet kitchen with top of the line Thermadore appliances, including a 90-bottle wine fridge.

The home has a security system, large basement for storage and right by the three-car garage is the basketball ring where George and Annie played basketball in the movie.

The house is located in the LA suburb of Alhambra, where lots of Hollywood movies have been filmed, and was also used in the 2005 film Guess Who starring Ashton Kutcher.
