But David Beckham has brushed off the frightening incident, saying he was just "shaky and sore".

Speaking to the Mirror, Becks said: "I'm fine but I'm a bit shaky and sore."

A photo from the scene reveals the true extent of the collision, with both cars involved left in wrecks.

The former England star was taking his oldest son Brooklyn home from football training with Premier League team Arsenal when the accident occurred.

An oncoming silver Mitsubishi collided with his Audi A6 estate on the driver's side and left both cars badly damaged.

David escaped with a minor injury, believed to be to his shoulder, but 15-year-old Brooklyn was left unharmed.

A woman and her adult daughter in the other car were treated in hospital for minor injuries after the accident on Saturday morning.

It was reported Beckham gave one of the women his jumper to keep warm as they waited for help outside the training ground at London Colney, Hertfordshire.

One eyewitness said: "I think Beckham was just pulling out and this car went into the side of him, it was going at some speed.

"He checked the woman was alright and then rang inside with his son to avoid attracting any attention.

"The other woman's car was a complete write-off, the front was completely crumpled.

"Beckham's car was also quite badly dented and scraped in the sides, the door was left hanging.

"The smash left a lot of debris all around, it was pretty powerful. The lady just got out and sat on the side of the road with her head in her hands. I think she was ok though.

"Both of the airbags in David's car had gone off. Everyone was very lucky to walk away from it really."

Arsenal staff ushered onlookers away from the area and David was driven away in another car.

One Brighton youngster, Archie Davies, tweeted: "Just seen David Beckham looks like he got in a car crash and hurt his shoulder."

The teenager then added: "Star struck by seeing David Beckham tbh."

And team-mate Thomas Cadman tweeted: "Weird to play against Brooklyn Beckham earlier. Even weirder to be currently stuck behind David Beckham as he has crashed his car."

The accident is the third time Beckham has been involved in a smash with Brooklyn in as many years.

They suffered minor injuries in Torrance, California in 2011 and also crashed in Beverly Hills in 2013.
