In "Jane", a girl named Jane punches a boy named Tommy in the mouth. The circumstances are unclear, but it sounds like Tommy's problem was that he "spoke too fast." It's an ominous and strange little scene and Girlpool, a duo consisting of high-school friends Harmony Tividad and Cleo Tucker, punctuate the action with high-pitched screams straight out of Bikini Kill's "Liar". "Jane" sounds like a murder ballad drawn in crayons, with red scribbly blood exploding at the edges, but it ends with a message of empowerment: "Don’t ever feel imprisoned, feeling like your mouth is glued tight shut," the pair sing in unison, commanding the idea. "You were born for a reason, share all your feelings/ If you are a Jane, put your fist up, too."
