The Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend Netflix deal fallout has spread to Canada.
Cinema giant Cineplex on Tuesday said Canadians will not see The Weinstein Co.’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel on any of its 20 Imax screens simultaneous with a planned Netflix Canada debut on August 28, 2015.

“Playing movies day and date with the release to home entertainment is not part of our strategy,” Cineplex spokeswoman Pat Marshall told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday. “As such, we will not play any movie day and date in our theaters with any other windows. This would include our Imax auditoriums.”
Cineplex has long frustrated Canadian distributors by protecting its traditional theatrical window against early moves to premium VOD. Regal and Cinemark, which also operate Imax locations, on Tuesday said they too will not offer Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2 in any of their theaters at the same time it hits the comfort of living rooms via Netflix.
