On the third play of the game junior quarterback Tom Smith faked a hand-off and then fired a 43-yard TD pass to junior wide receiver Mike DePass. Early in the second quarter, Smith faked a fourth-down punt and instead hit streaking junior wide receiver Jordan Washington with a 51-yard TD pass. Two minutes later, Smith hooked up with DePass again on a 14-yard TD pass.

Harvey’s only mistake, a fumble lost on its own nine-yard line, led to Forman’s only points, a fourth-down nine-yard TD pass. On the ensuing kick-off, DePass caught a low kick and raced for 69 yards all the way up the sidelines for a 26 - 7 Harvey lead at halftime.

Harvey Boys Soccer Blanked by Masters

Harvey boys varsity soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to The Master’s School of Connecticut Wednesday, Oct. 15 in another tough match. The visitors had their offense going early, scoring twice in the first fifteen minutes, but the Harvey defense, led by strong efforts from juniors Adam Penino and Jackson Hammerstein, and solid work in front of the net by junior keeper Zach Goligoski, kept the game from getting out of hand. Goligoski made eight saves.

Freshman Omar Coca also showed great potential on the offensive front, earning a penalty kick when he was fouled in the Masters box, but Harvey’s junior captain Tyler Levy was unable to score. Masters struck back with three goals in the second half. It could have been worse but for the four saves made by freshman keeper Alex McLean.

Harvey JV Co-Ed Team Notches a Win

The Harvey School played its first coed JV soccer match of the year Thursday, Oct. 16, at home against Soundview and came out winners by a 4-2 score.

Janice Cai, Maddy Binderman and Emma Carillo turned in a stellar performance. “They seemed to beat their opponents to every loose ball,” said Coach Luigi Loiola. Harvey’s defense was led by freshman Chris Brennan and Nikki Johnson, securing the middle while sophomores Ethan Alfandary and Brian Alvarado were relentless on the edges, often taking the ball from their own end deep into Soundview territory.

Alex Mclean, Samantha Feuerstein, and Sarah Chintz shared time at the keeper position for Harvey. “They all made numerous saves on Soundview breakaways, keeping us in the game,” said coach Loiola.

The coach said, “It was fun seeing the boys and girls working together. Players like Adam Margolis, Samantha Danziger and Lauren Suna dominated the midfield while freshman Ian Macari played at various spots on the pitch.”

Three freshmen scored a total of four goals. Eliot Zbylut had two while Chris Mann and Vic Mazzaro chipped in with one apiece.
