Variety reports that Sony Pictures has pulled its backing from the project. That leaves Aaron Sorkin stood on his own with just a script, still lacking a lead actor to play the part of Jobs.

According to Deadline, there are rumors that Universal may pick up the project, though it's far from a done deal—so the movie may remain in developmental purgatory for while longer yet. Sony hasn't yet explained why it's ditched the film. [Variety via Gizmodo UK]
