Who made the decision to fundamentally change so much about the series?
Did Deep Silver approach Keen Games and say, this is the kind of arcade game we want, or did they say, here is the Sacred franchise, make the game you want with it?
Either way I applaud you for coming on the forums here, and hope you don't get too much personal abuse thrown at you for doing so.
I would like to comment on something you wrote here though. You address "die hard" sacred fans and apologize to them for being taken in. It isnt just the die hard fans that are upset. It isnt just the die hard fans that were lied to. Quite a few casual fans bought based on the reputation of the franchise also. Many of those casuals dislike what they have been handed as well. It isnt just the die hards.
/salute. Enjoy your day.
Thank you very much. I appreciate it. I actually do work on a satisfying new project with some keen veterans. We founded a new company and are working on our self-funded debut title. But this is not the place to promote my new studio or game.
@Avenger1324
I can't give you a "black or white" answer. The executive producer and creative producer were employed by Deep Silver and they did a good job. But they both had a boss too, the marketing department.
The marketing department of Deep Silver was the only one with enough power to change the direction of the franchise.
I'm sorry for the wording. Of course I'm sorry for all sacred fans. This damn "3" in the title. I suggested to rename it to "Sacred - Brawling in Ancaria" or something like that... But the "3" obviously sells better.
EDIT: I was a bit long to write this post and, well, you partialy answered it already.
Quoting you: "I actually do work on a satisfying new project with some keen veterans. We founded a new company and are working on our self-funded debut title. But this is not the place to promote my new studio or game."
That's great to hear, best of luck on that !
I been playing Sacred 3 and as a top down beatem up i find it pretty incredible, easily one of the best in the genre
Do you mean side projects? Mo-Fr I work on our company's PC & Console project and on the weekend I work on my mobile "one button" game. So yeah, I still love gaming, games and game development. Games occupy 80% of my awake time.
Edit:
I'm thrilled that this developed to a reasonable conversation. Didn't expect that. Thanks!
Thank you - mostly forums just get to think up ideas why a game did what it did, but not always with the knowledge of what actually happened.
Certianly having the "3" in the title hasn't help the backlash you can see on these and other forums. Another name would have avoided that, but as you say, the Sacred name is what sells and that's marketing controlling it.
