Just as the Porsche 959 was way ahead of its time when it launched in 1986, showing the roadmap for supercars and sports cars of the future, the 918 Spyder may give us a glimpse of what we can expect for years to come – not only for exotics but for regular vehicles as well.

MotorTrend’s Ignition takes the Porsche 918 for a thorough test including 0-60 mph, quarter mile, braking, figure 8, hot lap around Big Willow race track  – you know, the usual stuff. The 918’s performance is absolutely stunning as I’m sure you know, but to put things in perspective, the video also features the 918’s ancestor, the Porsche 959.

Unfortunately, we don’t get to see the two cars compared against each other, although the outcome wouldn’t be hard to predict. Instead, Carlos Lago and Randy Pobst drive the two cars separately and offer their feedback. Scroll down to watch the video.
