Crazy Pyes food truck hits Los Angeles with free pie

Share

Now that food trucks are the new billboard, “Orange Is the New Black” has one of its own to promote the Netflix original series (in case you don’t watch, the show’s about a bisexual woman in New York sentenced to 15 months in prison for transporting drug money) -- with free pie.

The second season of the prison comedy/drama premiered on June 6. The Crazy Pyes food truck is inspired by the character Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren and her meme-inspiring catchphrase “I Threw My Pie for You.” And Crazy Pyes already has rolled through Mexico City and New York, where it drew long lines and one protester (because “the book [on which the show is based] profits and exploits women who were formally and presently incarcerated,” the dissenter told the New York Observer).

The truck will be handing out free fruit pies and giving away free “Chocolate and Vanilla Swirl” (yes, that’s a euphemism) ice cream cones.

The show’s Twitter feed @OITNB will make announcements about the truck. In Los Angeles, Crazy Pyes plans to stop at the following locations:

Friday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hollywood and Highland

Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the corner of Culver and West Washington boulevards next to the Culver Hotel

Sunday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Brig on Abbot Kinney in Venice

Mmmm, pie. Follow @bettyhallock
