Netizens point out: Mar's quote closer to Pokemon than Batman

Administration bet Mar Roxas caused a stir online by quoting Batman during Sunday's Pilipinas Debates 2016 in Pangasinan, in response to a question from Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.

"As Batman said, it is not important how you came to this world. What is important is what you did with your life. And my life over the last 20 years has been a public record," he said when asked if his path to Malacañang would be "too narrow" due to his privileged background.

However, netizens were quick to point out that Roxas had misquoted Batman, and that the actual line from the movie was: “It’s not who I am underneath but what I do that defines me.”

Just as quickly, netizens noted a similarity between Roxas' quote and another pop culture line — this time from Pokémon.

They pointed out that it was similar from a quote from Mewtwo in Pokémon: The First Movie.

“I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant; it is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are,” said the Pokémon in the movie.

One Facebook page even put up the video with the quote.
