The 2018 BMW M5 super sedan isn’t expected to bow until at least the 2017 Geneva Auto Show, but the car’s already been spotted running hot laps on German’s speed limitless Nürburgring. And it sounds angry.

Word on the street is that the next M5 will run a “a revised version of the 4.4-liter V8 TwinTurbo with around 600 horsepower,” and pick up better fuel economy according to BMW Blog.

Meanwhile Frank van Meel, who runs BMW M after working at Audi quattro, basically confirmed to AutoCar last year that all-wheel drive would be a part of the M5 in the future. Whether or not that will be optional or standard remains to be seen.

We still don’t know what the gearbox situation will be, either. A standard manual transmission would please the Jalopnik enthusiast braintrust, but with three-pedal cars popularity withering I can’t say I’d be shocked if the current M5 is the last “proper manual.”

But of course we’re all looking forward to the F90 M5 either way. Certainly doesn’t look slow in this video.
