Special Sherlock Episode May Air Between Seasons

Actor Martin Freeman hinted this week that the next installment of Sherlock could be a one-off special episode.

According to Cultbox, Freeman, who portrays Watson, said there's a fantastic idea for a special Sherlock episode. "Mark Gatiss may beat me up, but there is an idea for this one-off special that’s such a good idea, and as I was listening to it, I thought, ‘We’ve just got to do this,'" said Martin. "And I don’t know when we are going to be able to do it, unfortunately.”

The critically acclaimed TV show has struggled in the past with finding time for stars Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), who are both busy filming other series and films. But a special episode sounds like a clever way to satisfy fans until season four comes out as well as fit both actors' schedules.

Freeman, however, still doesn't know when that might happen. "It’s a fantastic, really mouth-watering idea," he said. "But I really don’t know when we are going to get to do it.”

The most recent season of Sherlock — season three — started off good and ended with an amazing episode earlier this year.
