The Ducks announced Monday afternoon that they’ve extended the 22-year old netminder with a three-year, $6.9 million deal. Per Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register, Gibson will make $1.5M this season and $2.1M and $3.3M, respectively, in the final two years of the deal.

So much for those trade rumors

Gibson has spent each of the past two seasons playing between Anaheim and the Ducks’ AHL affiliate in Norfolk. Starter Frederik Andersen is set to become a restricted free agent next summer, while backup Anton Khudobin will be unrestricted.

Judging by his salary increase, Gibson looks primed to be given the opportunity to compete for the starting job next season with a hopefully re-signed Andersen. For now, he'll have to continue his develop in in the AHL with San Diego.
