In the fight against neuromuscular disorders, the people fighting the hardest are often families. Due to the progressive nature of the neuromuscular disorders, families are often burdened with financial pressures as assistive and medical devices can cost thousands of dollars.

Over the nine years, the Simcoe Volunteer Chapter has provided over $70,000 dollars in funding grants for families affected by neuromuscular disorders residing in the Simcoe area.. The grants have funded assistive devices such as wheelchairs, ramps, leg braces and essential medical equipment as government funding is not available or limited.. In addition, the funding grants have afforded individuals and families opportunities to participate in educational seminars, retreats as well as accessible camps.

Proceeds will also go towards funding leading research to find a cure. As well as, providing the much needed emotional support for individual and families, whether it is offering information at time of diagnosis, providing options with change in circumstances, assisting with accessing resources and or just to connect and listen.
