Twitter has named a new head of product -- for the second time in just six months.

Twitter has appointed Kevin Weil, previously the head of revenue products (ads, basically), to serve as VP of all product efforts at the company, people familiar with the matter confirmed to Mashable. The Wall Street Journal was first to report the executive change.

The move comes a little more than six months after Twitter announced it had hired Daniel Graf, a former Google Maps director, to head its consumer products efforts. Graf's hiring boosted Twitter stock, with investors optimistic that the ex-Google employee might be able to help the company renew its slowing user growth rate and engagement.

Apparently not so much.

Graf will now focus on "special projects," according to sources, starting with geo and location features better suited to his experience working with Maps. Given Graf's broader purview earlier, this appears to be a quick and significant demotion.

Sources tell us that the move is intended to streamline Twitter's product efforts so that the revenue and consumer product teams work more closely together on projects.

The executive shuffle is just one of several at Twitter in recent months as the company struggles to accelerate growth and appease concerned investors. The social media company has also replaced its CFO and head of media. Michael Sippey stepped down as Twitter's product chief in January after two years on the job and was replaced by Graf.
