CBS just made a big commitment to one of its flagship shows: NCIS has been renewed for two more seasons.

In a rare double-year pickup, CBS has vowed to keep the veteran procedural drama on the air through 2018.

In addition, star and executive producer Mark Harmon signed a new two-year deal with the network.

“It’s extraordinary that in its 13th season and with over 300 episodes to its credit, NCIS continues to excel at such a high level on a global scale,” said Glenn Geller, president, CBS Entertainment. “It is testimony to an amazing cast, led on and off the screen by the exceptional Mark Harmon, for skillfully bringing this universally appealing team of heroes to life; and to Gary Glasberg and his writers for crafting compelling stories that feature NCIS’s signature blend of mystery, quirk, drama and comedy every single week.”

NCIS is one of only a few shows on television that regularly cracks 20 million viewers when including DVR playback. The drama is averaging 20.47 million viewers, up +4 percent from a year ago and on pace to finish the season as broadcast television’s most-watched for the seventh consecutive year. The show is also in the top 15 among adults 18–49, averaging 3.1 rating.
