This Mercedes Sedan Easily Tops 200 MPH

A modified Mercedes E-Class has 850 horsepower and can hit a top speed of 217 mph.

For Mercedes-Benz drivers who aren't content with the 400 horsepower offered by the standard E-Class sedan, the automaker's AMG division will happily outfit the car with a bigger engine and loftier price. But even that's not enough for some people.

For those people, there is the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo.

The German tuning company has taken the 557-horsepower E63 AMG and made a boatload of modifications to the engine, transmission, and exterior. The result is an 850-horsepower monster that can get to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and reach 217 mph.

We'll pause here to you wrap your head around that.

For the record, 217 mph is almost 40 mph faster than the takeoff speed of a Boeing 747. It's also the top speed of McLaren's million-dollar P1 supercar. But the Brabus 850 also can hold four adults in serene comfort. If AMG takes a normal Mercedes and turns it up to 11, the 850 6.0 Biturbo is that same car turned up to infinity.

Engine displacement has been increased from 5,461cc to 5,912cc with a slightly longer crankshaft stroke, along with an upgraded air intake system, special turbochargers, and a new air duct in the hood. The exhaust is new, too, with a special butterfly valve that lets drivers choose between a quiet "Coming Home" mode and a "Sport" setting for the exhaust. That one could be relabeled "WAKE THE GODS" and it's where the exhaust should be permanently set.

Rounding out the upgrades, Brabus has modified the transmission, attached a number of aerodynamic pieces (all made of carbon fiber, of course), and fitted ZR-rated 20-inch tires on its less-than-subtle Monoblock R "Platinum Edition" forged wheels.

Oh, and there's a handcrafted leather interior with all the luxury you'd expect, lest you forget you're in a Mercedes. It's available as a wagon, too.

The 850 can be ordered as a complete car from Brabus, or the company can convert any current E63. Pricing has not been disclosed, but count on writing a very large check.
