The Flag Smashers are dealt with and the shield is in the hands of a man who deserves it. But it's still not getting better for Bucky. He’s seventy years out of sync with the world, and the one person who understood has vanished to a place Bucky can’t follow. Some days his fingers itch for the order and structure of the reckoning list he left in the notebook in Dr Raynor’s office.
Go out and find yourself some goddamn occupation, his pa used to say, when he was getting up to mischief. Bucky does.

"You want to learn how to swim?" The instructor asks slowly. He once-overs Ken from head to toe.
"Yeah!" Ken grins. "I lived somewhere where the waves were like... solid?" He mimes a collision.
"Like..." The guy pauses doubtfully. "Antarctica?"
They meet again, a year later, in the warm, summer haze of a Los Angeles cafe. She sees him first. He's quick to follow. (As always.) If this were a fairytale, this is where the story ends.

Summary
The Kingdom of Winter is at war with the Kingdom of Hydra. To Steve, it feels they always have been. He spent years fighting in the Winter army and now he's been summoned to the capital, Winter's Heart, to take up a new post as Captain of the Star. The capital is rife with intrigue, from the comings and goings of the whispering footmen, to the dashing and secretive Sergeant Barnes, and the goings on of the Winter Queen and her two children, Princess Rebecca and Prince James. When a delegation arrives from the neighboring Kingdom of Shield and painful secrets are flayed wide open, Steve must face the consequences of his heart's desire and confront the limits of his duty.

Summary
Steve Rogers walking through his door is always a challenge — something that always makes holding up his casually friendly bartender facade very difficult.
It's harder tonight. The relief that floods Bucky at the sight of Steve's familiar features is so overwhelming that he has to ball his hands into fists and take a long breath to hide his less-than-calm emotions.
"Captain Rogers," he says, trying his damndest to not search Steve for signs of injury. "Didn't know you were in town."
"Just got in," Steve says. He grabs a seat, and Bucky keeps his eyes on the leather of Steve's jacket to avoid looking at his face
(Or: Steve's a rebel pilot with a target on his back, Bucky runs a bar that's a hub for rebel activity, and the two of them have a long history. It's a Star Wars AU.)

Summary
SHIELD was the only intelligence agency that assigned werewolf and vampire agents to work together in the field, but the program had been a staggering success. They compensated each other’s weaknesses, complemented each other’s strengths, and a werewolf could feed a vampire and shake off the effects faster than ordering a pizza.
Bucky knew all that. What he didn't know was why this particular vampire, one Agent Steve Rogers, was holding out a protein bar. They were perched in the rafters of a warehouse, waiting for not-overly punctual arms dealers to show up and deal arms, had been stuck up here for a couple of hours, but none of that explained vampires suddenly offering snacks.
In his near decade as a werewolf in SHIELD, Bucky had worked with a lot of vampires, and they all tended to be pretty much the same. Steve Rogers was different, didn't fit the vampire mould, and Bucky couldn't quite figure out why.
Not that it really mattered. Steve was just someone he was occasionally paired with on SHIELD assignments. It wasn't like he was going to have any effect on Bucky's life.
