Town of Maine Hosting National Night Out This Evening

The Broome County Sherrif's office, in conjunction with the Town of Maine will be hosting a National Night Out at the Town of Maine Park behind Maine Memorial School this evening from 6-8pm.

National Night Out, an event created by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) in 1984, is now celebrated by over 37.8 million people and 16,124 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, military bases, and even Canadian cities worldwide.

Promoting anti-crime awareness and support within the community, National Night Out creates a sense of neighborhood spirit and builds police-community relationships by hosting entertainment at several city parks and locations. NATW’s original mission in celebrating National Night Out was to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back, hopefully bringing up a generation of informed and anti-crime youth.

The Broome County Sheriff's office will be operating several events, including K-9 demonstrations, the Safe Child ID Program, a child safety seat installation and inspection station as well as informational displays and various emergency vehicles on the premises.  The Town of Maine Volunteer Fire Company will also have demonstrations and equipment at the event. The Maine Community band will also be performing and refreshments will be served.
