When Pushbullet introduced its pro plan, some folks walked away upset. For some of them, Join from Tasker-plugin maker extraordinaire Joaomgcd was just the ticket. The service doesn't quite stack up feature per feature, but it does a decent job of handling the basics.

One thing both Pushbullet and Join allow you to do is send text messages through your phone from the comfort of another machine. In the past, Join required a Chrome extension to get this done. Now the app lets you use any browser, without the need for an extension.

Join's new approach is to send you a link inside the Android app that you can share to any device (pictured above). This link opens inside a browser of your choice. As long as you allow the site to open pop ups and you sign into your Google account to verify your identity, you're good to go.

Right now Join is in beta and free to use. Here's how you get your hands on the app.
