Meryl Streep Is Learning the Guitar Because There's Nothing She Can't Do

meryl streepNothing can stop Meryl Streep. If she doesn’t know how to do something — and those chances are slim to begin with — then she’ll just pick it up. NBD. Her latest challenge is learning the guitar for her starring role in “Ricki and the Flash,” which was written by Cody. Other than the fact that Streep is practically perfect and why wouldn’t she learn to play the guitar for a role, director Jonathan Demme wants all of the music in the movie to be played live.

Cody apparently based the character of Ricki on her husband’s mother, a musician who plays in a local NJ band. Ricki never quite reached the big time, but was it worth giving up the time she could have spent with her family? Streep’s daughter Mamie Gummer will co-star as Ricki’s daughter, so expect some onscreen drama. Cody told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s going to be pretty exciting to see to watch them play against each other… I can’t imagine embarking on something like that with my mom. I feel like we would work out a lot of stuff.”

Is Hollywood ready for a movie that combines the powerful, lady wizard forces of Meryl Streep and Diablo Cody? We’ll have to wait and see while Streep practices strumming.
